Today is National HIV Testing Day

Statistics show nearly 250,000 people in the United States are living with HI, and don’t even know it.

Today is National HIV Testing Day.

Local health care officials are reminding people to get tested.

Caitlyn Ryan is the HIV prevention coordinator for New Hanover County.

She says with one million Americans living with HIV, everyone is at risk.

“A lot of people think ‘well why would I need to be tested for HIV, I’m not in a high risk population.’ But, there are many different ways you can contract HIV. So, we definitely encourage everybody to get tested,” said Ryan.

The New Hanover County Health Department will provide free HIV testing at a community wellness fair tomorrow afternoon.

It will be at the Community Health Center on North Fourth Street from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
