Search suspended for missing swimmer; crews to resume search Wednesday morning

HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A search for a missing swimmer has been called off for the night, according to Brunswick County Emergency Services Director Anthony Marzano.

An initial call came in around 5 p.m. stating a swimmer was in distress in the Lockwood Folly Inlet near Holden Beach. Holden Beach Police say the swimmer is a 21-year-old man.

Marzano said Oak Island Water Rescue, Holden Beach Police, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and Tri Beach Fire responded to the scene. A helicopter was also used in the search.

The search is scheduled to resume Wednesday at 7 am.
