Train hits truck in NE Charlotte closing busy road
CHARLOTTE — A train has collided with a truck in northeast Charlotte, closing one of the area’s major roads.
Authorities say the collision happened around 8 a.m. Friday on a road just off state Highway 49. The truck and the paper products inside caught fire, sending thick clouds of smoke into the air.
Police have closed NC 49 in the area, including an onramp to Interstate 485.
Authorities say the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital, but it is unclear how severe his injuries are.
Police say the engine of the train also was damaged.
