Chandler’s Wharf owners ask for permission to demolish

Chandler’s Wharf is a staple of downtown Wilmington’s historic water front, but for how much longer?

Owners have asked for permission from the city’s Historic Preservation Commission to demolish the main building.

The owner’s real estate agent says the land value is greater than the improvements on the property.

Right now, the building is home to many shops and businesses.

Justine Ferreri owns an art studio and gallery in Chanlder’s Wharf. For her, the space is inspiring.

“You can watch the water; little children come in and get so excited. Absolutely, it’s a great location. I think it has good energy, and everybody who has a shop here just loves it,” said Ferreri.

The building where Chandler’s Wharf is now, used to be the Calder-Thorpe Warehouse, built back in 1884.

The family who owns Chandler’s Wharf also owns the Cotton Exchange on Front Street.
