Misconduct allegations in NHC Fire Department

There are allegations of misconduct inside the New Hanover County Fire Department.

Former firefighter Jeff Curran says he was fired yesterday for reporting an inappropriate relationship between two supervisors within the department.

The firing came just days after Curran wrote a memo to the chief alleging the sexual relationship he says he witnessed at the firehouse. The memo asked for guidance in how to handle the situation.

Curran had been with the department for two months.

He was told yesterday he was being let go due to “personality differences.”

Curran believes he has the support of his coworkers.

The International Association of Fire Fighters is helping Curran on how to proceed from this point.

The New Hanover County Professional Firefighters association released a statement last night saying it is troubled by the allegations and wants an independent investigation to be conducted.

Donald Ragavage, vice president of the Professional Fire fighters and Paramedics of North Carolina, who says he has sat in on previous meetings regarding harassment and discrimination within the county fire department, accompanied Curran yesterday.
