UPDATE: Man drowns in White Lake

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New details on a man who drowned in White Lake over the weekend.

According to police, 50-year-old Danny Chavis of Robeson County was visiting the lake with his friends on Saturday.

Police say Chavis and his friend got into the water at Goldston’s pier and tried to swim to another nearby pier.

That’s when police say Chavis became exhausted and went under in about seven feet of water.

EMS attempted to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead a little before 6 p.m.
