Firemen fill their boots
If you drove through Monkey Junction this weekend, you may have noticed firefighters holding their boots in the middle of the road.
They were holding the annual “fill the boot” fundraiser. The Myrtle Grove Volunteer Fire Department has been doing it for the past six years to raise money for the muscular dystrophy association. The idea is to fill their boots with as many donations as possible.
“It’s doing pretty well today,” Myrtle Grove fire chief David Raines said on Sunday. “We’ve got a lot of help out on the street, the traffic seems to be flowing pretty well, and we’re getting an awful lot of donations.”
Last year the firefighters filled their boots with more than $20,000. Raines says they hope to top that this year.
