Suspect surrenders in Charlotte teen’s shooting
CHARLOTTE — A 19-year-old woman accused of shooting and killing a Charlotte teenager earlier this week has surrendered to police.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Vanessa Hines turned herself into police late Thursday night and was being held in the Mecklenburg County jail Friday on a murder charge. It was unclear if she had an attorney.
Fourteen-year-old Ashante Mayfield was shot to death while sitting in a car Tuesday.
Police think Hines had fled the scene on a bus after the shooting. They say Hines is the only suspect in Mayfield’s death.
