Pit bulls rescued by police could soon be put down

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police rescued six pit bulls from a home at 2834 Ward Street Friday, but there may not be much of a future for the animals.

An animal control spokesman says pit bulls cannot be adopted out, so if their owner does not claim the dog in five business days, they’ll be put down.

Police found the dogs at a home where the tenants had been evicted. They believe a felon lived at the house, where they found two rifles and a handgun.
