WPD calls out bomb squad after fireworks found on cruiser

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Some Wilmington Police officers on foot patrol found a potentially dangerous situation when they got to their car Friday night.

A WPD spokeswoman says when officers returned to the cruiser at 408 S. 10th Street just before 9 p.m. Friday, they found the gas tank open and fireworks on the trunk and gas cap. She described the incident as malicious use of explosives.

The department’s bomb squad came out to make sure everything was OK.

Police say there was no damage and no one was hurt.
