Billboard for missing person built

Three years have passed since a young Columbus County woman, Carol Marie Dowless, disappeared. Despite the time that’s passed, her family is still searching and praying for her return.

On September 5th, 2005, Carol Marie Dowless disappeared. Her family says they saw her the evening of the 4th, but by morning she was gone. All that was found was her car in a pasture in Columbus County.

To this day, what happened remains a mystery. The pain is still felt by Carol’s daughter.

“She’d play with my hair, she’d tell me I was her baby girl,” remembers Sherland Denise Batten, Dowless’s daughter.

Sherland said she will never stop looking for her mother. “When I become legal age, there’s nothing I won’t do to find her. I’ll go to the ends of the earth.”

Over the last 3 years the family has been busy searching.

Roger Batten, Carol’s father said, “I’ve passed out posters, I’ve worked with Cue quite a bit, I’ve had several interview with TV things and mainly just hunting.”

To help find Carol Marie Dowless, the Cue Center for Missing Persons has spent the last four months raising money to hang up a billboard with Carol’s picture on it.”

The billboard was just revealed and sits along the 701 bypass in Columbus County. Cue volunteers said choosing which case went on the billboard was easy.

Renee Warren of the Cue center said, “If you would ever walk into a house and see Sherland, the oldest daughter break down and start crying for someone to find her daughter, you would understand why.”

The family believes the billboard will bring them one step closer to finding Carol.
