Pier Swimming

It was a splash in Wrightsville Beach Saturday morning.

Nearly 500 swam from Johnnie Mercer Pier to Crystal Pier in the fourth annual pier-to-pier swim. That is 1.7 miles of open ocean.

Luckily for the swimmers, the water was fairly calm and not too cold. The ones we spoke to seemed to enjoy it.

“It was fun,” said Nick Schauer who placed fifth in the race. “It was just chillin’ out in the ocean, a good swim for a long time. It was a blast!”

The event was put on by the Cape Fear Aquatic Club and the Wilmington family YMCA.
