NC sheriff awaiting Marine’s return from Mexico

JACKSONVILLE — A North Carolina sheriff says a Marine being held on a murder charge in Mexico won’t be singled out when he is returned to the United State for trial.

But it still isn’t known when 21-year-old Cpl. Cesar Laurean will be returned to Onslow County to face a charge of first-degree murder in Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach’s death. The 20-year-old
Lauterbach of Vandalia, Ohio, was found with remains of her unborn child in January in a shallow grave in Laurean’s back yard.

The Jacksonville Daily News reported Monday that Sheriff Ed Brown is preparing for the prisoner’s return. Brown said Laurean will get the same humane treatment as other inmates and “will notbe singled out.”

The FBI says Laurean currently is being held in Mexico and won’t discuss movement of prisoners.
