North Brunswick High School put on lockdown

A scare today at North Brunswick High School.

The threat of suspicious activity lead administrators to put the school on lockdown this morning. Principal Bob Grimes left this message on parents phones today. “Hello this is Bob Grimes, principal at North Brunswick, this morning at approximately 9:45, North Brunswick went into lockdown.”

That was the message parents received Monday after police arrested Christopher Bell and Jacquel Mitchell for trespassing.

School officials say a teacher spotted the pair knocking on windows and doors trying to enter the school and sheriff’s deputies are investigating why.

Jessica Holt and her friends were shaken up by the lockdown as rumors spread quick.

“I was so scared I was crying and we had to be in a group with a whole bunch of people and everyone was saying are you ok?” said Holt, a student at North Brunswick.

Brett Toney also was apprehensive during the day. “I got a text saying that there was a guy running around with an axe, so I called my mom to come get me.”

The school was locked down for about an hour, while investigators secured the area.

Parent Theresa Toney is thankful her son is safe. “I can’t believe this happened here, thank God that it didn’t turn out to be anything where there was any violence, I’m just glad that I’ve got my baby.”

No weapons were found on the two trespassers. Extra law enforcement remained on campus for the rest of the day.
