Abandoned Southport home burns to ground

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — In Southport, a fire at a building backed up traffic for a half a mile on Long Beach Road Thursday night.

Firefighters said the flames started at an abandoned house on a dirt road behind Surf Cinemas. They had to shut the road down and call in several fire departments because the only fire hydrant was across the street.

The home burned to the ground.

No word on whether anyone was hurt.
