US House approves Fort Bragg funds

FORT BRAGG — The U.S. House has approved more than $175 million for construction projects at Fort Bragg in 2009.

The plan includes three projects worth $21.5 million that weren’t originally in President Bush’s budget request.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Thursday the additional funds include almost $11 million for a chapel, more than $1 million for a mass casualty center and nearly $9 million to widen a road in Fayetteville near the post.

The road widening project would allow officials to close a street running through the base to increase security

The budget must still be approved by the Senate and signed by the president.
