Wilmington Fire Department hosts Fire Expo
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington fire fighters were at Independence Mall hosting a fire expo Friday. To conclude National Fire Prevention Week, the fire department set up games, and had different informational booths for mall goers to check out.
This year’s fire prevention week theme is ‘Hear the Beep, Where you Sleep’, encouraging people to make sure they have smoke detectors in places they sleep. The fire department helps promote the theme by offering free smoke alarms and smoke alarm installation to families in the City that do not currently have working smoke alarms, especially in their bedrooms or alternate sleeping areas.
Battalion Chief Sammy Flowers said they want to reach people before there is a fire.
“The fire service over the years has been reactive, if we are proactive out here identifying the risk, spreading that fire safety message, we reduce the risk of fire and injury in our community,” said Flowers.
Citizens can call 910-772-4128 to ask about the WFD’s smoke alarm program.
