Fire safety week in Wilmington
Staying safe and having a plan in case there is a fire is something Wilmington Fire and Rescue want people to keep in mind.
Wednesday was Family Fire Drill Day, a part of Fire Prevention Week here in Wilmington. It is a day to educate people on how to keep their homes safe to avoid a fire, but more importantly, have a plan in case there is ever a fire in your home. It could save your life.
“You need to have multiple ways outside of your home. You may not be able to get outside your home from your front door that you usually use. Make sure you have multiple ways out, can you get out a window, and make sure it’s not painted shut,” said Frank Blackley, Assistant Fire Chief of Wilmington.
Some tips on how to make an escape plan involve walking through your home and determining at least two exits from every room. Also, choose an outdoor meeting place that is a safe distance away.
