FIRST ON 3: Facebook group started in support of wounded deputy

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Facebook group supporting a New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputy shot on the job is drawing quite a few members. Friends and family of Michael Spencer are showing their support for the man who is still recovering from injuries from two years ago.

In October 2013, Spencer was shot in the leg while serving on the FBI Safe Street Force.  According to a post on the page, Spencer suffers from PTSD and his doctors say as long as he lives in New Hanover County his condition will not improve. The post goes on to say while his medical expenses have been covered, but he must work in the area. Spencer is looking for a lump sum settlement from the county so he can move and focus on his recovery.

A New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said they are not able to discuss personnel matters.
