3 escaped inmates captured in northeastern NC
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Officials say three inmates who escaped from a North Carolina prison have been captured about 200 miles away in the northeastern corner of the state.
The Department of Correction said Friday that two of the inmates were captured before midnight Thursday in a stolen tractor-trailer cab that was parked in Elizabeth City. The other inmate had been captured several hours earlier in Elizabeth City.
Officials said the inmates face felony escape charges and charges for the truck theft. The men were reported missing during a 6 a.m. head count Thursday at a prison in Richmond County.
The men were identified as Joseph Caulder, William Bullard and Richard H. Ames III. All three were serving sentences of less than a year on a variety of charges.
