Friday storm causes damage at James A. Walker apartments

Some folks in Wilmington woke up Saturday to find their apartment building in pieces.

Residents believe strong winds from Friday’s storm destroyed the side of the James A. Walker Apartment Building on Rankin Street.

A resident and the apartment manager secured the crumbled mess until emergency crews could tape it off. People who live in the building were glad children were not around when the bricks started to fall.

Howard Poole, a resident of James A. Walker, said, “We’re really grateful nobody was out here to get hurt. Of course we want folks to hurry up and secure the building, so we won’t fell like the rest of it is going to fall down.”

11th and Walnut Street were closed until the mess was cleaned up.
