Paint recycling in Hampstead

There is a lot of focus these days on going green. Recycling glass, paper and plastic is pretty common place.

People are not used to recycling paint, however. In Hampstead Saturday, people were encouraged to bring old paint cans to The Paint Store”. The goal was to mix old paint and create a neutral color.

The new stuff will go to non-profit organizations like Habitat for Humanity. Paint storeowner Jim Wells said recycling unused paint and donating it, is his way of giving back. “We can come up with 15 or 20 gallons of paint and that way any non-profits that have a whole house to paint can get the same color.”

Wells strained the paint, and mixed it all together in a giant bin. The combination of colors turned out to be a light beige, which Wells said is a good universal color for homes.
