Actor Pat Hingle gets a star on Walk of Fame

It is not the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but for actor Pat Hingle, having a star on Wilmington’s walk of fame is even better.

People remember the actor as Commissioner Gordon in four Batman movies, and Sally Field’s father in Norma Rae. After nearly 60 years, the television, film and theater star is being honored.

Saturday the nonprofit group, Celebrate Wilmington, dedicated a star on the Walk of Fame to the man many call a Hollywood legend.

“It’s a very great honor, and you know they’ve got the Hollywood walk of fame but this one is much nicer,” Hingle said.

The large crowd at the stars dedication ceremony proves Hingle has touched the lives of many fans in our area. The fans, friends, and family around him is just what he needed to lift his spirits. Hingle is battling a form of blood cancer. “I’m getting tired. This cancer that I have depletes me. I don’t have the wonderful stamina I’ve had all my life, so I’m running out of gas now.”

Hingle’s star lies on the Wilmington Walk of Fame at the Cotton Exchange downtown. His star is near famous journalist David Brinkley’s and novelist Richard Rouark Jr.
