NC film festival features 78 entries

ASHEVILLE — Downtown streets in Asheville will take on a Hollywood atmosphere this weekend during the city’s film festival.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Thursday that organizers have selected 78 films from the 257 that were submitted to show through Sunday. The festival starts Thursday night with a showing of Darren Aronofsky’s film “The Wrestler,” which stars Mickey Rourke.

Showings end Sunday night with “Slumdog Millionaire,” which won the audience award at the Toronto Film Festival. It also was the closing night feature at the London Film Festival.

Categories include features, shorts, animation, documentaries and student films.

At the same time, a festival of films rejected by the judges will be running.
