Runners took to the streets Sunday for the Battleship Road Race

Runners took to the streets of the Port City Sunday morning. They ran the Tenth Annual Battleship Road Race.

Some people ran the 5k while others took on a half marathon. This year’s race was dedicated to the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and those who served on the Battleship North Carolina.

For runners, it was an opportunity to get out and enjoy a beautiful November day.

“Well it was a beautiful weather and I got to run with my friend for the first time. And it got me out early, got my exercise over with, but I did not know I had to go over the bridge twice,” said runner, Susan Zenner.

The race started and finished at the battleship, and took a tour of downtown and Greenfield Lake Park. The race started early enough to avoid any major traffic headaches.
