Red Cross celebrating 100th anniversary

The Wilmington chapter of the Red Cross will celebrate its 100th anniversary Monday.

The Red Cross is an organization led by volunteers who provide relief to victims of disaster and help prepare and respond to emergencies.

Because volunteers make up 97% of the workforce, they will be recognized for their 100 years of service to the Wilmington chapter.

“Their ability to deliver our humanitarian mission…They are incredible. They will get up at 2 o’clock in the morning, and respond to a neighbors home after their home has burned down and they will provide them with emergency assistance,” said Vicki Labelle of the Wilmington chapter talking about the volunteers.

The Wilmington chapter will hold a reception Monday night at the Cape Fear Museum to honor all those volunteers that make up the organization.
