Man wanted for selling stolen golf cart batteries arrested


LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man wanted for six counts of obtaining property under false pretense was arrested early Thursday morning, according to jail records.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s spokeswoman said John Joseph Sawchuk, Jr., 32, of Lee Drive, was wanted for crimes that happened between September 2 and October 23.A

Warrants show Sawchuk sold thousands of pounds of stolen golf cart batteries to AIC Recycling LLC on several separate occasions.

Jail records show Sawchuk was arrested just before 12:30 a.m. He is in the Brunswick County Jail under a $60,000 bond, facing two felony larceny charges.
