Burgaw police force out on foot

Police in Burgaw are stepping up their presence by stepping out on the street.

In an effort to promote more communication between residents and the police department, Burgaw officers will be spending more time on foot. For a few minutes everyday, officers will be on foot patrols in the downtown area to encourage interaction.

The department has struggled to increase manpower but now they have enough officers on board to implement foot patrolling.

“I would like to see them get back out to have one on one reaction with the citizens and the business people of the town and get to know the people. I feel like the best way for that to happen is for them to be out on foot to stop by and say hey,” said Bill King, Burgaw’s Police Chief.

Chief King said this will also help cut down on fuel costs.
