American Legion donates to Battleship NC fund
WILMINGTON, NC — A veterans group has donated $150,000 to help restore North Carolina’s World War II memorial.
The American Legion made the donation to the Battleship North Carolina’s Generations Campaign, which is raising money to repair the hull of the ship.
“The American Legion, Department of North Carolina and the 40,000+ members is honored to make a contribution of nearly $4 per member to help restore and maintain the Battleship North Carolina.” Donald Bridges, American Legion, Department of North Carolina, State Commander said in a news release. “These funds will help insure that she be available for everyone to enjoy and revered forevermore.”
The Battleship continues to inch toward a goal of $17 million to repair the ship’s rusting hull or risk losing the ship to the scrapheap. A spokeswoman says so far they’ve raised $14.8 million toward that goal.
