Leland community plans for the future with interactive workshop
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Tuesday night was the first of a series of workshops giving people who live in Leland a chance to lay out what they want Leland to be like in the future.
With the help of town leaders PlaceMakers LLC hosted the workshop. The people who came out had to decide where homes, shopping areas and even a downtown could be constructed in Leland. Groups had to decide together where to put their stickers which represented different types of development projects.
Susan Henderson, PlaceMakers Principal, said it can be difficult making development choices especially given Leland’s population growth.
“There are a lot of tradeoffs, it is a very complex problem but it’s really fascinating because most communities respond very well to it,” said Henderson. “They begin to understand how complex it is.”
Many of the groups agreed on the same types of developments. They want more retail and convenience shops near residential areas and they want a town center or downtown-like development near Village road.
There will be an open house on Thursday November 12 at 1:00 p.m. and a Vision Presentation on Friday November 13 at 6:00 p.m.
