Son of Brunswick Co. couple awarded Medal of Honor
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Retired Army Capt. Florent Groberg, son of Brunswick County couple Laurence and Klara Groberg, was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama at the White House.
During Groberg’s second deployment to Afghanistan in 2012, he encountered a suicide bomber. Four were killed, 16 were hurt but dozens were saved because of his bravery.
“‘It’s hard for myself to think and put myself in that kind of position, that these men were in,” Laurence Groberg told us last week. “But I know my son is dedicated to the kind of job he does.”
Groberg suffered a severe leg injury and underwent 33 surgeries to save it. To read more about Groberg’s incredible story, click here.
