NC undercover agents nab street racers

GREENSBORO — Secret informants and hidden cameras have helped authorities arrest more than two dozen people in an undercover street-racing investigation in High Point.

The Greensboro News & Record reports that authorities worked for several months before going undercover. They collected evidence that races were prearranged, which means the vehicle involved can be immediately seized.

Officials said 33 people were charged with more than 100 crimes, and 25 people were arrested this week on charges including prearranged speed competition.

Guilford County District Attorney Doug Henderson said street-racing cases can be difficult. He said the recent arrests are different from typical cases that come after an officer sees two cars speeding side-by-side down a highway.
