Man rescued after falling into abandoned well

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington firefighters have rescued a man who fell into an abandoned well.

WFD spokesman Battalion Chief David Hines says it happened around 1 p.m. at 2603 Guilford Ave.

Hines says the man was just walking when he fell through the grass into the abandon well that was about 6-8 feet deep. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to rescued him. EMS treated him for non-life threatening injuries, but Hines did not know if the man was taken to the hospital.

Traffic on Market Street near the scene was detoured while crews worked.
