NC officer punished for Facebook comments

DURHAM — A police officer is being disciplined in North Carolina following an investigation into claims he used racial slurs on social networking Web site Facebook.

Durham Police Department officials said Friday the officer was cited for conduct unbecoming of police department personnel, among others citations.

Three officers were investigated following complaints about postings on their Facebook pages. The disciplined officer identified himself as a Durham police officer on his page.

The police department released a screen shot of his page that shows he wrote, “This is what we get for passing the 14th amendment.” The posting was made shortly after Barack Obama’s
presidential win.

Chief Jose Lopez said the officer has taken down his Facebook page. His name hasn’t been released.
