Suspicious letter intercepted
The U.S. Postal Service intercepted a suspicious letter heading to Governor Easley.
Easley’s office confirmed that our state is one of 36 states that have found letters containing suspicious powder.
An Easley spokesman said the letter, addressed to the Executive Mansion in Raleigh, is now in the hands of federal authorities.
The F.B.I. said field tests have indicated the powders are harmless. Further testing is under way.
The letters are all post marked from Texas. They began arriving at governors’ offices across the country on Monday.
