Committee recommends investing $9.5 million on incinerator

Members of New Hanover County’s Solid Waste Advisory Board agree that an incinerator is the best way to take out the county’s trash.

The committee voted last night to recommend the county invest $9.5 million dollars to maintain the WASTEC incinerator on highway 421.

Committee chairman Buck O’Shields said the money will come from tipping fees, or the fees dump trucks are charged to dump at the site.

The committee also recommended the county partner with a private company to help transport waste to landfills in other counties.
