Man tased at fathers funeral now in jail

The Wilmington man who made national headlines after being tased by deputies at his father’s funeral is now serving jail time.

Gladwyn Russ III just pleaded guilty to his most serious charge, possession of a firearm by a felon. As part of a plea bargain, his misdemeanor charges, stemming from the incident at the funeral, were dropped.

Prior charges of communicating threats against his wife have also been dropped.

New Hanover County deputies were serving a warrant on that charge at Russ’s father’s funeral. When he resisted arrest, they tased him.

Russ will undergo a mental health evaluation, serve two months in jail, and three years probation.
