Donations cover costs of sending Jose Montalvo’s body to Mexico

The finacial woes for the widow of the man killed in the Oak Island bridge collapse are over, at least for now.

On Saturday, the family’s attorney told WWAY NewsChannel 3 he hand-delivered donations to the funeral director in Sumter, South Carolina.

The donations were enough to cover the cost of transporting Jose Montalvo’s body.

Montalvo’s body was picked up from Oak Island, returned to Sumter, and is now back in Mexico for burial.

His widow, Maria Sanchez, hoped her husband’s employer, Lee Construction, would help with the costs. The company has refused.

Jose Montalvo was killed on the job earlier this month, when a concrete girder fell on him.
