Former Port City mayor dies at age 87

Former Wilmington Mayor Berry Williams passed away Friday night at the age of 87.

Williams died of natural causes after spending his final years in hospice. He served two terms as a New Hanover County commissioner in the 1950’s.

Williams also founded the Azalea Festival Committee.

He leaves behind a wife, two children and four grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Andrews Mortuary off College Rd.
