Man released after arrest in church fire back in jail

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — Police in Fayetteville say a man granted pretrial release on charges stemming from a church fire is back in jail after authorities say he violated the conditions of his release.

The Fayetteville Observer reports 33-year-old Jack Randall Singleton Jr. is charged with burning of a church or place of worship in connection with a Sept. 23 fire that damaged C.D. McNeill Memorial Church of God.

At a hearing Monday, a prosecutor asked that Singleton be required to wear an ankle-bracelet monitor while on pretrial release. Singleton had said he was scheduled to undergo a medical procedure.

On Wednesday, police said they took Singleton into custody for violating curfew, moving to a motel without telling anyone and failing to recharge the ankle bracelet.

Singleton’s new bail is set at $200,000.
