NC city forgiving parking ticket fines 1 more day
GREENSBORO — Motorists in a North Carolina city who are shopping for bargains should check their gloveboxes for parking tickets.
The city of Greensboro says one day remains on its offer to forgive fines for late payment of parking tickets if the drivers pay the tickets. The month long amnesty deal expires at the close of business on New Year’s Eve.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported Tuesday that the city hopes to collect some of the $2.2 million in unpaid parking tickets and fines. The city had collected $19,000 as of Christmas Eve and forgiven $86,000 in penalties for overdue tickets.
Officials hope for a last-minute surge of payments. In 2009, motorists who have three or more overdue parking tickets will have their cars towed.
