Santa Cop coming to Wilmington this week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington tradition more than 20 years in the making is happening this Friday.

Wilmington Police Department’s annual Santa Cop event will take place at the Walmart on Sigmon Road starting at 8:30 a.m. More than 45 kids from the area will participate in the event that allows officers to take them to breakfast and on a shopping spree. A WPD spokeswoman said donations from the community helps to provide the money needed to do the event.

The children in the event are referred from school social workers and counselors.
