Two local schools are raising money for cancer research

Faculty members at two local schools are making a presidential push to raise money for cancer research.

For the last 3 years, Suzan Perry and Kathren Miller made quilts to raffle off for Relay for Life. This year, the two quilters collected donated fabrics from the community to create a red, white, and blue quilt. The pair sent one square to Senator John McCain and brought one to President-elect Barack Obama during his visit to Raleigh to get their signatures.

“And through this quilt someone will have a piece of that history by having his signature. Everyone has been effected by cancer, everyone,” said Kathren Miller.

They will be selling raffle tickets through April. If you would like tickets, contact either Myrtle Grove or Roland Grise Middle schools.

Tickets are two dollars and all of the money will be donated to the schools’ Relay for Life donations that support cancer research.
