Wilmington an affordable option for film producers
Wilmington film commission director Johnny Griffin said choosing a location to film a movie often comes down to money. Because of that, Wilmington is looking better and better to Los Angeles film producers looking for cheaper places to make their movies.
Here, in North Carolina, there is a 15-percent tax incentive for film producers. The Port City also offers a mild climate and beautiful scenery.
Griffin explained, “Wilmington works for both of those. A lot of times they are looking for a certain kind of production look that can’t be found in the Los Angeles area, and obviously we are cheaper than Los Angeles.”
That being said, other states, like Michigan and Connecticut, have even bigger tax incentives.
The number of film shoots in Los Angeles has dropped to a record low. Since 2007, feature films shot in LA dropped 15-percent.
