FIRST ON 3: A look at work on the I-140 Wilmington Bypass
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Roadwork is nothing new for drivers in our area, but some serious construction is going on over at the I-140 Wilmington Bypass project. Today we got a behind-the-scenes look at the progress on the project.
“There’s an eight-mile leg of it left between US 421 in New Hanover County and (US) 74-76 in Brunswick County,” NCDOT Resident Engineer Wayne Currie said.
According to Currie, all eight miles are currently being worked on in some capacity.
“We’re about 40 percent complete now, so we’ve got a long way to go, but everything is going along well,” Currie said. “There’s bridge work going on in a number of locations. We’re putting down asphalt in a couple of locations, plus we’re hauling fill material to build the road itself throughout the remainder of the project. So there’s work going on for all eight miles.”
Currie said for him and his team this project, although massive, is business as usual. He said when it is completed in 2017 there will be dramatic improvement to traffic patterns throughout our area.
