Friends and family remember Buddy Burney

On Saturday, family and friends remembered a loyal Bladen County coach and friend. There was a barbecue held at the Dixie Youth Field in Clarkton in honor of Buddy Burney.

Burney was the longtime sports editor for the Bladen Journal. In December, he was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer, and unexpectedly passed away last Saturday.

Burney coached Dixie Youth Baseball for more than thirty years. He left behind family, friends and years of memories.

Marsha Burney, Buddy’s sister-in-law said, “Fantastic man, did not have an enemy, didn’t have a bad thing to say about anybody. Just the salt of the earth. Just the finest fellow you would ever want to meet.”
