Fire Kills Family of Four

This is all that’s left after a deadly fire leveled this mobile home to ashes; claiming the lives of an entire family. “We heard it was a family of four, a husband, a wife, and two children,” says Friendly Baptist Church volunteer Ben Horrell.

Burgaw Fire Department, Rocky Point and Maple Hill all responded to the call around 3 AM.
Firefighters found the bodies of three victims in the master bedroom, the fourth was found in the second bedroom. Burgaw Fire Operator Sam George was the first on scene. He said, “There was fire from one end to the other.”

Officials aren’t releasing names of the victims until they get a positive ID from the State Medical Examiners Office in Chapel Hill. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials warn people to keep items like curtains and papers away from any heating unit.

Luckily, fire officials were able to cool down the surrounding mobile homes, to prevent the flames from spreading. Not before the blaze reached the cars parked outside the home. The Pike Creek mobile home park houses predominantly Spanish speaking residents. Many of the neighbors saw the flames, but had a hard time communicating what they saw.
