NC man dies in weather-related traffic crash

RALEIGH — A North Carolina man has been killed on a rural road when he lost control of his vehicle because of snow and ice and hit a tree.

The Highway Patrol says 57-year-old Edward Wayne Dudley of Creedmoor died Tuesday afternoon in the wreck on State Route 1618 south of Oxford in Granville County.

A patrol spokesman says the wreck was one of more than 2,500 accident calls that troopers handled during the storm. The patrol says secondary roads still are a concern on Wednesday because of snow and ice.

The National Weather Service says up to 3 inches of snow fell in Granville County.
