All aboard for model railroad show
The Cape Fear Model Railroad Club hosted the Eleventh Annual Model Railroad Show and Sale on Saturday at the American Legion.
Enthusiasts set up different scale models that operated throughout the show. Some of the experts held do-it-yourself scenery clinics where people learned how to create the right atmosphere for their home set up.
Representatives from the Army’s Railroad Transportation Unit located in Southport, said the Tar Heel State is the perfect place for a railroad show. Brian Hakey, the Railway Movement Coordinator said, “Only four railroad transportation units are left in the entire country, that’s any branch of service. That makes us very unique to North Carolina is the fact that they even house one of those four.”
The transportation unit showed kids safety tips to protect them and others around railroads. The show is also going on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
