Taking Control of Your Health Fair offers wealth of information
The New Hanover Regional Medical Center and WWAY teamed up for the Taking Control of Your Health Fair on Monday.
The health fair, set up in the Dillard’s wing of Independence Mall, consists of ten booths, staffed by different health care professionals; you can find info about everything from cancer to nutrition.
The health care professionals are helpful, knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you may have, but the best part is that it’s all free. If you want to come out to Independence Mall and check out the health fair, the event is going on until 8:00 pm.
As soon as the fair was set up, the booths were packed. The da Vinci Surgical Robot was a crowd favorite.
Jim Wade of Wilmington, a visitor at the fair, said, “What I’ve seen is the da Vinci Robot. We were curious to come by and see it because I had my prostate removed two weeks ago by a very similar machine.”
Besides a wealth of information from experts on everything from stroke prevention to good nutrition, free screenings are also available.
Event coordinator Liz Oden said, “They can get their lung function checked they can get a blood pressure checked, their BMI, learn about breast cancer awareness, really just get a global view of everything that provides good health and wellness.”
Charles Brownell of Wilmington said, “I had my blood pressure just taken and found out it was extremely high, and I guess I’m very thankful for that because they asked me to go to the emergency room to have it checked out. So if I would have just stayed home eating potato chips, I would have never known this, so this was very good for myself.”
